Senior Data Engineer

To support an exciting new phase of growth as we evolve into a full-service technology provider, Inde Technology are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team in Auckland.

This is a full-time, permanent position. The successful candidate will need to be on-site 3 days per week at a customer in South Auckland, and the rest of the week at the Inde office in Central Auckland.

About the role

You'll play a pivotal role in creating cutting-edge data platforms that transform how our clients leverage their information assets. As a key member of Inde's Data Intelligence and Architecture team, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, designing and implementing sophisticated data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, and other leading technologies. 

We keep our systems simple and agile so that we are not constrained by processes and procedures. Rather than offering "out-of-the-box" solutions, you will have the autonomy to use a customer-focused, cross-team approach to ensure we deliver the best possible solution to address the customer’s key problems. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of advanced data platforms for diverse enterprise clients 

  • Translate complex business requirements into elegant technical solutions 

  • Design and build robust data pipelines and ETL processes using Microsoft Synapse, Data Factory, and related technologies 

  • Engage directly with clients, communicating technical concepts clearly and building strong relationships
  • Mentor team members and contribute to our culture of technical excellence 

  • Drive innovation in metadata-driven frameworks and data ingestion methodologies

Skills and experience

We are seeking a resilient, proactive individual who thrives on fostering innovation and embracing change, who is hungry to make a difference, and humble in their approach.  

It’s likely you will have certifications and experience in some of the following areas: 

(Even if you don’t have experience with all these skills, but you think you could be a good fit for this role, we still encourage you to apply)  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data engineering or senior BI development
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience building solutions with Microsoft Synapse and Data Factory 
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation and analysis
  • Proven ability to take ambiguous requirements, develop a plan, and deliver complete solutions
  • Strong expertise in data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing solutions
  • Proficiency in Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for deployment and testing
  • Experience in metadata-driven frameworks and advanced data ingestion techniques
  • Microsoft certifications such as DP-203, DP-600, or DP-700 highly valued
  • Informatica ETL development experience, particularly in data ingestion scenarios
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud) beneficial 

Your capability will also include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build & maintain lasting relationships with customers. Previous experience in a professional services environment is highly desirable. 

  • The ability to take an innovative approach to business challenges, opportunities, and be a proactive problem solver. 

  • Excellent client communication skills with the ability to discuss technical concepts, data governance, and quality management with customers 

  • Self-motivation and an ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment 

  • A passion for technology and a sound knowledge of trends within the IT industry. Logistics industry experience would be advantageous 

  • University degree or equivalent proven work experience 

  • A strong desire to learn and grow within the role.
